Looking for the best video software to edit some video I've got.
Mostly looking for something to do scene transitions, like fade in/out
that kinda stuff. Nothing complicated
I've got premire 6.5, but it seems to only export/save as .AVI.
All the video I'm working with I encoded through tmpgenc plus.
Anything else out there that easy to use and works with mpeg2 video
both import and export?
thanks.

uhm... Premiere 6.5 has MPEG2 support... That's the big change in 6.0 and 6.5

Actually, you only need to become adept at AviSynth to do all those functions with TMPGEnc. However, it is an advanced piece of software.
Until then, try Ulead Video Studio 6. It is easy to learn.Hello. -
Vegas Video 3.0
I use it for everything. Pretty easy and has alot of cool transitions. And you can encode to MPEG2, and I think the quality and speed is really good. -

You should definately check out AVISynth when your ready. It's got a powerful built in tool set, but it isn't newbie friendly. It will do blends, fades, etc, via scripts.
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything... -
Mavrick's right.
However, I tried using the Adobe MPEG encoder and while the results were OK, I still get better results converting the Adobe AVI with TMPGEnc.
To me it's worth the effort. I love Premiere. I've only had Pinnacle to compare it with, maybe this Vegas Video thing is pretty good too, but make sure you do small test projects with all new software. You don't want to spend weeks working on something, only to find out that the application has bugs so severe, that you can't even output to tape!
