  1. I am (trying to) convert a 3h 45M VHS video to something that can be read on PCs and Macs. Would I be better creating VCD or DivX?

What are the pros and cons?

I have a WinTV PCI FM (Nicam) card; XP Home; Athlon 1.6GHZ, 512MB Ram; 40GB free disk; Audigy sound card.

  2. Divx will give you much better quality than VCD (if captured properly), the downside is you will not be able to play a divx in a standalone DVD player. If you value these files then capture to both, Divx capable DVD players are prolly less than a year away....

Good idea. Convert to both and give my patient people the choice...

    Thanks.

  4. BTW, although MPEG-4 capable DVD players are coming, don't assume that they will play back your exisiting discs!
