  1. I am having trouble opening some AVI files in vertualdub. I have used it before to convert audio to .WAV and it hasworked fine. I am using the latest version (1.4.10). Every time I try to open some AVI files I get th following error message....

"Couldn't locate the decompressor for format 'DX50'" (also XVID)

"Virtualdub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DireceShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

I have installed Nemo Codec pak. As I said before, I've never had a problem. It seams that I have onle had a problem with AVI's from DVD rips. I have spent a lot of time reading the how to sections and forum posts and can't find an answer. Can someone please help. I will try to help others as I learn. Thanks in advance......Dockdog 8)

  4. Thanks for the advice. I will try to reload Nimo today. If no good I'll download Mpgable. I really like Virtualdub because it gives so much info on files. Well I guess you can't have it all . Thanks again......Dockdog

  6. You need XviD codec before you can open it in Virtual Dub. Get it here:

  8. Thanks for all the help I installed the Xvid codec and all is fine with Xvid AVI's. I tried to reinstall Nemo but it did not work. It was weird, although I saw DivX 5.0.1 in multimedia properties on my computer, it did not show in Virtualdub. I downloaded DivX 5.0.2 and it works great. I couldn't have done it with out everyones help. I hope Mike229 who is having the same problem reads this. thanks again............Dockdog.
