  1. i have just used ffmpex to convert a dolby digital vob trailer to mpg and burned the resulting .img file using toast. the .mpg file played ok using quicktime but when i played the finished vcd on my dvd player, the sound as well as the image stutter and there are alot of chirping, popping noises - it's unusable - does anybody know why this is ?

Trailers are poor resolution. They make them that way so that they can be streamed without a problem and so that they don't take up a lot of space on the disc. So converting a trailer to a VCD or SVCD will never look as good as a real VOB.

That doesn't mean that you can't do it. Lower your bit rate in ffmpeg.

  3. squeed - i agree that the vcd quality will not be the same as the original vob. but i am getting tons of errors in the audio and the video jumps erradically. i've tried it with almost all of my thx and dolby trailers and i always get the same crappy result. i will try to lower the bitrate in ffmpeg and see if that makes a difference.

  4. i have now used a very low bitrate in ffmpex's "bitrate calculator" panel - however, i am still getting erradic video and stuttering audio as well as chirping and popping noises.

i am using thx and dolby trailer vob files that are widely available on the net. has anyone been able to convert those to mpg so that they can be used on a vcd ? any help would be greatly appreciated.

i am using ffmpeg to turn the vob files into mpg and then use missingmpegtools to create an xml file out of which i create .img files that i use with roxio toast.
