  1. I am trying to tape a VCD to a VHS.

I burned the VCD myself so I could get rid of the macrovision.

But how do I record the VCD to VHS?

My DVD Player plays the VCD, and is on Video-1.

    Thanks!

If you have your DVD Player running through your VCR... Just put a tape in and hit record....

  3. But when I do that, I get a blank screen.

Because I also have a cable box.

    So it goes:

Wall > Cable box > VCR > TV > DVD Player

    Try this:

Wall > Cable Box & DVD > VCR > TV.

Cable from wall to Cable box, cable box to VCR and use RCA or Svideo to hook DVD to VCR, then from VCR to TV.

If you hook it up like this, you can record...

  5. Is there any other way to record without having to rehook everything?

Does your vcr have an aux in (often on the front)??

If yes then just use the DVD-out and send it to the aux video and audio-in
of the vcr then select aux-in as the source in your VCR recording options. If your DVD player only has 1 set of outs then at least you only need to disconnect 1 set of cables or the same thing can be achieved with video/audio splitter or piggy back wires without disconnecting by essentially simulating 2 outs. If your DVD player has 2 sets of outs then connect a new set of wires to the secondary out and connect them to the aux-in of your vcr that way there is nothing to disconnect or split.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

Did you remember to select "aux" as the record source on the vcr? Otherwise you won't get the right signal.

This would not work with DVD because of macrovision but its a straight forward 1 to 1 connection otherwise
--------------------------------- The VCR to TV you already have
DVD Video OUT-------->>>--VCR AUX Video IN-------->>> TV Video IN
DVD Audio Right OUT->>>--VCR AUX Audio Right IN->>> TV Audio R IN
DVD Audio Left OUT--->>>--VCR AUX Audio Left IN--->>> TV Audio L IN

VCR Input source = AUX (NOT CABLE BOX)

    Play DVD
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  10. It is a VCD actually.

Also, I turned the VCR to TV/VCR and all I got was audio and no video. The yellow cable was correct though.

I knew it was a vcd. I mentionned DVD in case someone else reads this and thinks they can copy DVD this way.

I have not experienced this myself but I have heard that you can create a vcd without removing the macrovision and that it will be carried on your output file. I am not saying this is your case nor can I confirm this info. Its just something I heard.

The fact you got sound is good. I hope it was from the DVD player. Now double check the video cable to make sure that it's on the DVD video out and pushed in properly. Then double check the VCR IN to make sure that it is connected to the video in. Its easy to misread them and plug them in the wrong connection. The yellow connector is usually for video.

If you still have a problem then try another video cable. It may be faulty.

If you still have a problem then please try these:

    2 other things:

    1) with the connections set up as described, play a good vcr tape and see if you get both sound and video on the tv. (This will check your vcr to tv)

    2) Remove the tape and insert a blank tape and although you cannot see the video play the DVD and as the sound plays record a few minutes to tape. Rewind and play the tape.

If the sound is ok but not the video then the problem is physical one between the DVD-Video OUT and the VCR video -in. It is possible that the DVD also has an option to direct the ouput signal to specific connectors so you will need to check that. Some players have an Svideo connector and a composite connector but you can't use both simultaneously.

If you still have a problem then disconnect the other video out.

Still Problems?? Describe the available outs on your DVD player.
ie, component (color stream), composite (rca) cable, svideo.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
