  1. Hello all

I have over 40 avi files 700mb average that I want to play on my Dvd which can play vcd and svcd and probably xvid (haven't checked but am pretty sure). Most of the files are under 120 mins in length and what I would love to know is:

What would you encode them to and what settings would you use to get the best picture and sound quality. If possible what is the best software to use. I currently use tmpgne and audiodub and nero to burn.

I have been around all the guides and forums but there seems to be no definitive answer ( Plus I don't really understand some of them).

If anyone can give me the benefit of there experience I would be totally grateful.

    Cheers
    RUK

1st, your dvd does not play xvid. but you dvd player can play bitrate up to 5000kbits/sec(check here-http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=1099&Search=Search&#comments).
i would use vbr with a max bitrate of about 3200 and an ave of about 2700-2800. if i were you i would also use dvd2svcd with tmpgne to automate the process. if you can, i would also suggest using cinema craft encoder with dvd2svcd for slightly better quality and much faster encode times.
