  1. I getting a strange effect in MPEG2 prepared for SVCD:
At certain times, where a degree motion is involved, the picture loses quality, asif the resolution is, in parts of the picture, drastically changed, and there can be seen a subtle sort of 'pixels' effect.

I'm capturing and editing in Premiere 6, all works a treat. And I can export to .avi or MPEG1 without any trouble; good, clean, clear results. It's only when exporting to MPEG 2 (using LSX-MPEG plugin) that I have trouble. So I tried exporting to .avi and then encoding to MPEG2 using TMPGEnc, but that gave the same results. I've also tried bitrates from 1,000 to 2,539 and 'motion estimation' settings from 1 to 20.

I'm lost for ideas. Can anyone suggest anything?

The pixel effect I assume is macroblocking which is a sign of low bitrate. Try Tmpeg 2-passVBR mode to encode your .avi, average 2000,maimum 3500,minimum 0 will allow about 50 minutes on a 700MB CDR. I don't know if your DVD player can handle 3500 bitrate so might try setting the maximum to 2520 which is standard SVCD bitrate. I've found 2-passVBR very effective at reducing macroblocking.
