Hi gang. Got a ?
How do I handle AVI from live digital cable broadcast (live football game)? When I open the AVI in TMPG detects that it is interlaced and it automatically selects top field first (field order).
Since it is a live digital broadcast should it not be progressive (non-interlaced) and bottom field first (field order)? Thanks.

The noly way to know the field order 100% is to try a small clip and see if it plays back OK. Field order has been know to change even in the middle of broadcasts, which can cause problems.
Whether or not your video is interlaced can be seen by loading it into an editor (e.g. virtualdub) and looking at frames with fast movement. If it exhibits visible horitontal lines then it's interlaced.
Hope this helps

live digital broadcasts are interlaced most often -- can be either top or bottom or both field order ...
