Hi!
I want to capture something with my WinTV PCI-FM from a video recorder.
If I capture the normal TV-Programm its very nice and 0 frames are dropped. But when I change the programm to the frequency of the video recorder, i have in 4 minutes 1500frames dropped. So the video is unuseable
Do you know what the problem is?
Greets
Guppy
Something to my system:
ATI Radeon 8500 64MB DDR (retail / built by ATI / Treiberversion: 6.13.10.6118)

AMD Athlon XP 1800+
512MB DDR-RAM (2,5CL)
Teac CD-W540E (40x12x40x)
Toshiba SD-M1612
Hauppauge WinTV PCI-FM
I used WinXP Pro. and for capture Virtualdub with the DivX5.0 codec. When I capture without the codec, its the same problem![]()

The frame dropping usualy depends on the condition of the sourse so if you have an very old tape this is the tapes fault, that the frames dropps.
Try an brand new tape and see if the same resoults. -
Are you capturing from the VCR using coaxial TV cable to the TV tuner on your WinTV? If so you should instead try connecting the VCR to the WinTV using RCA plug composite cables. This might help if your source tape is poor quality. If it still doesn't work you could try using a TBC (timebase corrector) to stabilize the video but this would be more $$$.

Its CRAP VHS fault, the siginal is so weak and unstable thats why you get frame drops, either need a VCR with TBC built in or a seperate TBC or any seperate box that turns the signal into digital 1st before the Capture card will work also. The new Panasonic DVD recorders do have a TBC built in and they work great for recording a signal from any source no matter how bad the tape is, so a TBC would really work, some higher end Camcorders also have a TBC, my Sony does but these are only the 3-4 line TBC and not the full frame version like on the panasonic DMR-E20 and E30. So through a camcorder its gonna have to be a tape in pretty good shape or it won't hold it. Ask around to see if a buddy of yours has a Sony digital or Hi8mm camcorder that has a TBC on it.
