Apologies if this has been posted before and this is probably something quite simple although it's proving to be a pain.
I have an edited video 720x480 44khz audio compressed using a Pinnacle DV500 board. All I want to do is shove it on a DVD. Yesterday I picked up the new Sony 500A and I'll be buggered if I can get anything burned to it. Anyway, the main problem seems to be the audio although some pointers to a simpler process of doing this is welcomed. My steps were:
1. Export in premiere to Microsoft DV AVI.
2. Use TMPGEnc to convert to m2v and m1v (?).
The problem comes when playing the exported audio - it says it is not a recgonizable PCM format. Is this because DVD audio needs to be 48khz?
Also, can I skip step 1 and go straight to MPG without re-exporting to Microsoft codec?
Thanks!

avi is compressed in audio this part of the file is what it cant read. u need to decrompress ina wav. file HAVE FUN !!!When in Dought Just ask. -
With the DV500 you should be able to export to an MP2 file from the timeline. Your DV500 has hardware MPEG2 encoding, so it will be much faster...

u need to take the avi file and decompress the adiou to a wav. file. im not sure what type of file the avi audio is in but its compressed and tmpeg cant read the audio of the avi file. let me look for a program to help u wth this. also go to Tmpeg and download the newest verison that is a free 30 day trial its great.

Yes, the DV500 outputs to Pinnacle MP2 - Can this be read in by most DVD AUthoring tools, and if so, is the audio track automatically split out?
Regarding TMPGEnc, yeah I downloaded the latest version and selected the E Audio+VIdeo output (or whatever) which it says decompresses the audio for you... -
Yes, DVD Authoring programs can use the *.mp2 file format. The MP2 file has your video and audio just like a *.mpg file....
-
Thanks - I'll try it out tonight. Now all I gotta do is get this sony 500a burner working through Nero..
-
Let me know how it goes...
Also you might want to download the trial version of DVD Movie Factory from Ulead. you can get it here....

Ok, now I get an error the calculated video bitrate is too high for a legal DVD stream. This is using Pinnacle Mp2 file to encode.
-
I exported as 8mbit pinnalce mp2 and it didnt complain although the file size was pretty small (200mb instead of 800mb as an AVI). I built a DVD image and copied the relevant files into nero as per the instructions on this site. I tried burning to both a TDK DVD-RW and a Sony DVD+RW disc. Neither disc worked in any DVD player INCLUDING the actual player I burned it with (it plays the title movie without sound then just stops).
Any ideas? Is DVD burning such a pain in the fekkin ass!!?? -
Dunno about the Nero thing... Could be going wrong there... Does the MP2 file play ok on your PC b4 your burn?
Try this:
Download DVD Movie Factory Trial from Ulead, and burn with that.
You can download a trial copy of DVD Movie Factory from
http://www.ulead.com/dmf/runme.htm
It’s about $45.00 -
Ok, I downloaded Ulead DVD Workshop demo and this is the only app that seemed to let me import directly from my Pinnacle MP2 (encoded at 9mbits) and write directly to disk. The disk works on my PC DVD player but does not work on any of my standalone players (I have 4). So, I presume now that it's just a case of finding the correct type of disk? I'm using TDK +RW and Sony -RW (both 4.7g).
Mavrick, thanks for your help so far - this has been a real headache and I would have given in long before now!
Best. -
It may be the RW... and the bitrate... try going to 8000 and use a -R or +R disc...
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh (pulling hair out).
Dropped MP2 into Ulead DVD Workshop - everything plays EXCEPT no auidio!
My God they make this f*cking difficult! -
Woohoo! Ok, finally got it working. I imported the AVI directly into DVD workshop instead of encoding it in Premiere using Pinnacle's MP2 codec. I then burnt it to a Memorex DVD-R and it worked on all 3 of my players.
What a pain in the ass.
but thanks. -
I know your pain!! It took me a while to get things "just right" when I first started. I almost gave up on it...
Anyway... Glad you got it going...
Have Fun,
Mavrick
P.S.
Be sure to share your new found knowledge with others...
(Some will try and rip on you for not using / suggesting TMPG... Don’t let it get to you...) -
I tell you, without the help of yourself, others and this whole site it would have been so easy to give up and flush $400 down the toilet.
So again, thanks a lot! -
