I'm obviously missing something here, but I can't see it
Whenever I create (X)SVCDs, I end up with an MPEG thats too big to fit onto the CD.
I've tried a number of bitrate calculators (the latest being FitCD) against a number of different avi files, encoding with both TMPGenc and CCE, so its obviously something fundamental I'm missing![]()
For example, the latest one I tried, the total length of the film (across 2 AVI files) was 142 minutes. So I wanted to split across 3 cds. FitCD suggested 2113 as the average bit rate, so I used VBR at 2100. The resulting MPG was 767Mb which Nero and VCDEasy both couldn't fit onto a CD. Reencoding at 1950 still made the file too big.
I'm also confused to see some MPEGS created by other people in excess of 800MB still fit onto one 80min CD
Any help might just stop an old man going mad![]()
Thanks

You may have one of 2 problems.
1) Your burnign software needs overburing enabled since 768 WILL fit on a 80 minute and probably fit on a 74 minute disc too.
2) Your burner doesnot support overburning -
Nero should and will burn 800MB SVCD to an 80 minute CDR. Are you sure you had Tmpeg set for SVCD? Maybe you set it for VCD or Mpeg VBR stream? I know I set Tmpeg to Mpeg VBR and Nero won't import that kind of file into it's SVCD template.

When you encoded with TMPGEnc what system stream type (under system tab) you choose? This one should be MPEG-2 SubervideoCD (VBR). I have found that so many ppl use MPEG-2 Program (VBR) and cannot burn to CD even though the files are smaller than 740MB and even worse some dvd player cannot play this type of mpeg2.
When you burn with NERO you have to burn as Supervideo CD and uncheck all complaiant or something. -

You might have something there - I know for sure that I've used the "Program" one at least once.
The most recent attempt was with CCE - does this have something similar? -
I'm not sure about CCE havent tried once. With TMPGEnc that might cause nero report file too big to burn or else your player cannot play at all.
Hang in there I believe there are a lot of CCE experts in here who can help you out. -
Well, I think I may have had some success. I've just used BBMpeg to mux video & audio instead of the 'Simple Multiplex' in TMPGEnc and it made '10 minutes' difference in the SVCD size in Nero?
I'm sure someone can explain it, but I'm just happy to have made some progress
Thanks guys
