  1. I have MPEG files captured from my digital video camera. I am trying to burn a VCD using Nero. I get an error in Nero indicating the files need to be MPEG-1. When I try to Re-encode, I get the error that MPEG-2 is not avail, and to buy the MPEG-2 codec from Nero. So I installed the Nemo CodecPack, then following this site's advice, I installed the TMPGEnc, but when I select the file to convert, I get an error that the file cannot be opened or is unsupported.

    Please help.

  3. Tried increasing the priority in the codec reader settings - didn't work.

It is possible that when I installed the Nimo codecs, that I didn't install all the DivX codecs. I re-installed all DivX codecs. I also installed a few MPEG codecs, but during the install, I got some errors saying the files couldn't be accessed, so I clicked "ignore". Either way, I still get the error.

When I try to play the files in RealOne or Windows Media Player, I get an error saying I need to download additional software, but after checking for the s/w, it says that "the codec needed to play the file is unavailable".

I captured the video using an Adaptec Firewire card, but took it back b/c the software was terrible. Bought a Firewire card from SIIG, but it didn't work with W2k, so now I need to find another Firewire Card (I am using a laptop so options are limited)

Help on my problem or on a good capture card would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Current versions of Tmpeg require you to have PowerDVD installed in order to open Mpeg2 files. Also if your trial period has expired Tmpeg wont open Mpeg2.

  5. Yes if newer version of TMPGEnc you can open mpeg2 file directly in TMPGEnc but older version like 12a you cannot. You can frameserve mpeg2 to TMPGEnc by using DVD2avi. Load mpeg2 file in dvd2avi save project then load "d2v" and "wave" file into TMPGEnc instead.

With mpeg2 you'll need mpeg2 code to play and/or edit mpeg2 file. This code doesnt not include in Nimo code pack. You'll have to install dvd player software like PowerDVD or Windvd or you can install only mpeg2 code (look at tool section). If you already have software in your PC then you don't have to worry about codes.

If you capture from DV cam why don't you capture in real time mpeg1 then you don't have to re-encode or anything.

How did you capture, anyway, from DV, via capture card, via i-link (firewire)? The best way to capture/transfer from DV cam, I'd say transfer as digital video via firewire port. Then you will have save project as uncompress avi. You can load this avi into TMPGEnc and encode to whatever format you want. This method you will get a lot better quality video than capture to mpeg1/2 in real time, but you will have to have a lot of hdd space for avi file (250+MB/sec or 10min for more than 2 GB).

  7. Thanks for the replies. Referring to the last post from ya_jai, I captured using an Adaptec card via Firewire. I don't remember being able to select what type to save the project as. All I know is that after saving it to my HD, it has an "mpg" extension. I don't know if it is MPEG-1 or 2.

It will play inside windows explorer, but when I double click to view larger, WMP or RealOne will not play it - says a codec is unavailable to play this clip. I installed the Nimo Codecs and now my system crashes everytime I try to play ANY audio or video clips.

I just bought Roxio Videowave Movie Creator to hopefully solve all these problems - is it any good?

  8. I'm sorry I dont really know about Roxio Videowave Movie Creator, I use Ulead video studio6 with my 8500DV. I don't think there is a difference between the card for transfering but the software might be. If you havent tried CAPTURE guide on the left, I strongly recommend you to read it first.

In Ulead I can save project as mpeg1, mpeg2 and avi type1 uncompress which is very big but the best quality.

In your software it might be default to save as mpeg2 DVD spec. I don't think nimo code pack is gonna help with mpeg2 file. You need mpeg2 code which you can find under tool section or you can install dvd player software like PowerDVD or winDVD which will install mpeg2 code for you.

I agree as wulf109 said. I have TMPG Plus 2.58. I experienced the same with TMPG and increasing the priority didnt matter. But when I installed PowerDVD, everything went okay. But dont update it with the latest patch (18xx) it will disable your TMPG again. I've tried this so I downgraded it to patch 1213
