  1. is there a way to prevent a cd to cd copy of any movie,
for example i have serveral vcd and svcd's on cdr's, and i don't want them to be copied, is there a way to add a dummy file or something to prevent the cdr writter from coping a successfull disc, to give it and error message or a none successfull message when coping in progress, some what similar to the copying of dreamcast games?

  2. Anyone determined enough will find a way to copy, but if you just want to stop the average muppet from copying your VCD one method is to pack it out to just over the 80 minute mark, and overburn (providing your hardware supports it). So say you have a 60 minute mpeg, join onto the end of this a 21 minute blank mpeg (using the merge tool in TMPGenc).

You now have an 81 minute mpeg comprising 60 min of video and 21 minutes of blank space. Overburn this using nero. If someone tries to do a simple copy they will get an error message saying there is not enough space on the blank disc.

However, anyone who knows what they are doing can simply set up to overburn themselves or extract the mpeg from the disc and cut off the blank space.

Try searching the forums. Someone posted an article a while ago about making a disc copy-proof... I don't know if it worked but it might cause compatibility issues. And of course, nothing is fool-proof but at least you understand what the movie industry can't... You can't stop copying but you can hinder it enough to make it too much of a pain for the average user to worry about.

Just a comment and not looking for further debate on the subject.

I don't have a problem with copy protection on rentals or loaners since the user doesn't own the disk and does not need to back them up. One could argue that their right to use ends with the rental agreement.

    But this is interesting.

You may have made a (s)vcd based on family memento etc... One would presume that as long as it is in your possesion then no-one else will be able to copy it. So copy protection seems to be unnecessary in that case.

On the other hand, you may have copied someone else's material (DVD, TV or VHS) but don't want someone copying the movie which you copied.

If you are planning to distribute something at a price with copy protection to prevent someone the right to morally (if not legally) backup and protect ones property, then you are in fact suggesting doing something which many of us are opposed to.

    hummmmmmmm!!!!
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
