I want to make an SVCD out of this disc, but if I put into Sony DVD-ROM the disc starts spinning, and the PC slows down, but the drive doesn't recognise the disc as a DVD. The disc doesn't stop spinning though until its ejected from the drive. I dunno the drive model though...

Any way I can fix this? (disc is in perfect condition, and works in PS2 and standalone DVD player)

  2. just to make sure, bottom of DVD must be clean, mo scratches, dust, dirt, etc...

also, sometimes that happens..i have an old compaq dvd-rom that's having hard time reading, while my new artec dvd-rom reads them the first time (exact same DVD)....so just keep on trying and letting your dvd-rom read it...sometimes it takes awhile for the dvd-rom to read it, so have patience (my old one can take upto 5 min to start reading a DVD)

Ok, I'm getting the same problem with Panic Room. Both these movies are distributed by Columbia Tristar (which is, to my knowledge, a Sony owned company). Could it be possible the discs and drive firmware have some kind of copy protection Sony implemented to stop CT discs reading on their DVD-ROMs?

The drive is a fairly new one (about 7 months old) so I doubt its a problem with drive age. And all other discs work fine.

Not Another Teen Movie doesn't work either... it's also a Columbia Tristar disc. I'm sensing a pattern here.

Drive model is DDU1621. Is there anyway to fix this??

But do you have a Sony DVD-ROM? I was thinking the copy protection would only activate on their drives, not all. e.g Sony drives have something written into the firmware to stop CT discs reading.

But again, how can it be drive age/wear and tear if every single other DVD NOT distributed by CT works first time, every time?

  8. Did you try other DVDs? Maybe you are only sensing a pattern because they are the only ones you are trying.

Is it just trying to rip the DVD that does not work, or does video playback not work? I can not see them creating a copy protection that does not allow you to view the movie.

I had trouble with BHD, finally ripped the DVD to my hard drive with Smartripper, and ended up with a good result with DVDX.

Yes, I tried other movies. Anything thats not a CT disc plays fine.

And nothing about the DVD works. Can't rip or play the movie.
