I just got a new computer and it's a lot faster than my old one I still use. Is there any way for me to transfer my data from my old computer to my new one without having to put this data onto CD discs or switch out the hard drives from inside? (I have movie files I'd rather encode on the new PC but some are over 2 gigs) Is there an easy way to do this?

vivisimonvi,
To be honest you might have better luck posting this topic over at broadbandreports.com in their Microsoft help section. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/winme
Those guys deal with these kinds of questions all the time and you'll probably find your answer a lot quicker. I'm not one that usually deflects a question away from this board, but in this case I think you might be better off.Warning! I'm baaaaaaaaack -

I thought it would be much easier perhaps to connect a USB cable between the two and transfer data like that. I've tried what I previously didn't want to do. I moved the hard drive out from the old computer and put it in the new computer but somehow it isn't reading it. Is there a way to assign it a drive letter and actually read it correctly?
In the Device Manager tab is shows the drive, but it doesn't have a letter assigned or show up in 'My Computer'. When I set it as a 'removable drive' it gives me an option to assign it a drive letter and restart. Somehow it shows it but the data shows up weird. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any help would be appreciated. -
i just picked up a usb 2.0 external hard drive enclosure for like 45 bucks, put in my extra 40 gig drive, plus you can take it with you.

Take the existing hard disk out, plug it into the new pc as a slave of the new hard disk, reboot.
