I think you shuld appoint a few officers to patrol the site.
    check this out
    http://vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=118368

not full moderator privaleges, just the ability to lock a post until an official mod can look at it and decide if the post is legit or not. sometimes the damage is already done(as the link shows) before a mod can even get to it.

i'd gladly accept one of the positions. maybe you can call us the SENTINALS or something.

at least some people sees the potential problem. i wonder who will be the first to post something against this. bet it's someone with about 30 total post, all of those post are asking for help and not giving help at that. some people don,t care because they frequent plenty of boards, so if this site is shut down, they won't care at all. if you ban them, they'll just join under a new name and cause the same trouble.

  5. I think i am the one most responsible for this uproar going around right now, therefore i owe Baldrick, this site and anyone else offended an apology. Sorry.... I do realize that it it is not enough as the damage has already been done. Not to defend myself but just to let you know why:

    1) didn't know the site was hosted in US since Baldrick is from Sweden
2)simply misinterpreted rule "Do NOT ask for warez, give warez or link to warez." by thinking the main point of the rule was to GIVE not to ASK.

  6. On the subject of this post (one good thing that was gained from my stupid action) i would agree that site needs Officers to patrol it just like they do at DC and DC++, very strict but helps others to enjoy it so much.

I'm getting pissed at all the kiddies trying to use this as a warez site. If they aren't bright enough to understand that this site isn't about illegal software then they shouldn't be here. Maybe a two-strikes you're out thing.

That said, maybe the rules should be expanded to mention serials, cracks, and workarounds.

Lastly, I agree with the demi-moderator comments: the moderators can't be everywhere at once, but the rest of us notice this junk and can cut it off before it becomes a full-blown crack/serial discussion.

    Thorn,
I agree with you that discussions on warez should be blown out of the water as soon as possible, but the mini-mod concept does have some issues. For example who gets to decide who's going to be the moderator and just how much authority do they have in controlling a topic? Should they only be able to lock a thread until one of the main mod's get's a chance to review it or given the power to delete outright? Anyone out there that has an opinion on this one way or the other I'd love to hear it.

It might just help to have more moderators. If baldrick does not want to deal with that then a clever mod to the board ( like you don't have enough already ) to report post as warez/spam/offensive/completly off topic. Similar to the DVD player list.

As the site grows so does the need for moderation. I would suggest just taking a look a the oldest and or most active users and offering out a few more positions. This as well as a no-nonsense policy on trasing user account who wilfully and with full knowledge break any of the forum rules ( not just dumb ). Anyone willing to put this forum at risk should get the shaft.

BTW: I missed the thread, I assume from the wording it was a warez thread.

    Snowmoon,

Thread contained direct links to cracks and serials on cerials.net website.

not just general references. poster has apologized for their actions.

Snowmoon: The thread started out as a request for a way to get around the TMPGenc mpeg2 trial period without buying the software. It quickly got a serial number and direct links to cracks, as well as instructions for finding and using cracks. Everyone ignored the usual "this is not a warez board" posts, and somehow people started arguing if serials and cracks were warez.... sad.

That was my second thought - the web reporting tool that flags the thread for the moderateors (assuming there are enough moderators who check frequently). That's probably a more reasonable solution than a bunch of deputized users running around "Respect my authoritah!"

Where are all moderators when I need them? Maybe I must fixe some more moderators. Anyone interested in helping out just private message me, remember that you should have been a member for a while and you should love to move topics and close double posts.

I will probably also add a "report this post"...

A report this post would be great. It's hard to find all of the "bad" posts around here. I search every morning and night for possible posts, but even then they do get buy.

  17. I prefer to spend my time helping if I can and so really resent those who
continue to disregard the rules. While a one off error should be excused, perhaps those who break the rules frequently should face a suspension along with a note to their abuse@ISP host.

I disagree with snowmoon, too many moderators can infact stifle the
forum. As long as the warez rule exists and offending post are eventually closed, there are no legal reasons to add more moderators.

Rather, I would vote that adam and vitualis be given the power to
    suspend offenders directly.
