  1. Im currently trying to covert an .avi to svcd using TMPGEnc and virtualDub, but am having a little trouble when i try to save the audio as a wav in VirtualBub saving as uncompressed it tells me :

The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format.Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format.

and i am unsure on what that means ?? i tried just opening the avi in TMPGEnc hoping that i didnt have to strip the audio, but the audio source didnt show up in the box which makes me think its not recognizing it ?? anyway i went ahead and tried to encode without the audio to test the video stream...and it keeps freezing and crashing??

This is the info that VirtualDub gave about the file:

    Video Stream=

    Frame size.fps(ps per frame) 640x272, 23.976 fps (41708 p.s)
    # of frames (time) 99663 (1:09:16)
    Decompresser: Xvid MPEG-4 Codec
    Number of Key frames: 979
    Min/Avg/max/total key frame size: 1900/17839/61553(17056K)
    Min/Avg/max/total delta frame size: 96/4853/39966(467758K)

    Audio Stream=

    Sampling rate: 48000Hz
    Channels: 5(stereo)
    Sample precision: 0-bit
    Compression: Uknown (tag 2000)
    Preload skew: 3584 samples (0.07s)
    # of frames: 64950
    Min/Avg/max/total frame size: 470/3583/3584 (227322K)

    Thanks.

  2. Your audio info shows that it has 5 channels. This tells us that it is AC3 audio. This topic has been covered many times on the forums and guides but I will give you a quick run down of what you need to do.

Virtualdub. Save the audio out using direct stream copy. Rename your new file as movie.ac3.

Again in virtualdub, set audio to no audio, video to direct stream copy and save a new, silent, copy of the video (this step isn't strictly necessary but I find it often helps!). Use this silent avi as the input to Tmpgenc, before hitting start select the radio button for video only and Tmpgenc will produce a movie.m2v file.

Audio. Take your movie.ac3 file and use Headac3he to convert to stereo mp2 format, downsampling to 44.1khz in the process. (If Headac3he gives an error, try ac3fix first. Use google to find it!)

Now use TmpGenc mpeg tools, multiplex the audio and video together and voila, an SVCD!

    Hope this helps.
