  1. Is this possible? A 3 or 4 minute clip in a bunch of different formats on the same disk? With a menu listing all the formats like this:

    1] VCD
    2] SVCD
    3] CVD
    etc, etc

Useful for testing DVD player compatibility for one... Will this work?

If you look at the specs for VCD / SVCD and DVD, you'll find, that these formats are based on different filesystems and thus have different directory structures.
Maybe it's possible to have different mpg formats (I don't have any Authoring program, which would accept mpeg-1 for SVCD or DVD, but maybe with header manipulation you might have some success). And I think, that's not your intention.

  4. I suggest that you download and burn the test V/SVCD images for the test of machines...

  5. I think if you use Nero to burn them as SVCD and
turn off compliance, the vcd, svcd, cvd part will work.

At least my Pioneer dv333 did not complian when I mixed
    various VCD format.

  6. The issue here is that you haven't actually made a VCD or a SVCD or a CVD.

You've made some sort of XSVCD...

If you want to test out a player, you should use a compliant disc so that you are sure that it actually plays them correctly (e.g., with PBC interpretation such as menus).
