  1. So this is my first post on this wonderful site. I'm hoping that all you great minds out there can help me, cause I'm in dire need of help.

I run Windows XP Pro. Yesterday, I tried to hook up my Sony TRV900 camcorder to my firewire port so I can edit video on Adobe Premiere 6.0. But after hooking up the cable, XP can't seem to recognize the camera. I was under the assumption that XP would contain the necessary drivers to recognize a wide variety of peripherals attachs to it's ports. However, I can't even seem to BEGIN to find where these drivers would be located for download.

The following links are a few of the MANY posts I've found around the describe the same issue that I'm dealing with:

    http://groups.google.com/groups?q=windows+xp+dv+sony+trv+900&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF...ast.net&rnum=1

This link helps to describe how people who ran Win2000 had no difficulty capturing from the Sony cameras, but once they "upgraded" tp XP Pro, the computer failed to recognize the camera:

    http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=e90gFVsqBHA.1596%4...p07%26rnum%3D8

So what is the answer here? I have 3 firewire ports in my CPU (2 are free). Do I need to install a new capture card? Should I partition my hard drive and run XP for applications and 2K for editing? Is this a familiar problem that you experts are there are aware of? I would sincerely appreciate any help anyone can provide about this. Thanks.

I think you may need new firewire drivers. I run xp pro with my sony camcorder and it works great. I use ulead videostudio 6. I did not have to download any new drivers but I heard that not all firewire cards are created equally. You may need to go the the texas instrument site. I saw something there about updated ti drivers.

  3. If you goto the Adobe site, and look in the support areas. There is a PDF for Troubleshooting Premiere and Capturing via a firewire.

Also, the PDF should be on your install CD and/or your Hard Disk.

I'm running XP and using this helped me out.

  4. Thanks to all who gave me advice. I ended up installing a new Firewire Card, which worked to recognize the camera for 10 minutes, then stopped. In the end, I simply choose to manually install drivers for my unknown "AV/C Subunit" in the "System32" folder, and that WORKED! Isn't always the easiest solution that seems to get overlooked? Anyway, things seem good to go, so thanks for the support.
