  1. Have read practically every post and found nothing to help my specific problem yet. Have WinDVD2.1 (OEM) and Windows Media Player. Burning VCD and SVCD with Nero 5.5 after encoding with TMPGENC. Play fine on the stand alone DVD player, but can't play on the computer at all. P4 1.4 MHZ Windows ME. I'm going nuts. Have also tried on another cpu with different DVD software. No luck. I have the infamous SCSI1HLP.vxd file mentioned in many posts. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am using the defaults on Nero with the exception of enabling the menus.

Does your SVCD have a SEGMENT folder? If not, WinDVD will not recognise the disc as SVCD.
There is also a patch available to upgrade WinDVD 2.x to version 2.8, find it at this page: http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/wdvd_down.html ("WinDVD XP update"). I am not sure if it will solve your problem.
