i converted the ac3 audio stream from a ac3 DIVX with virtualdub, using direct stream copy and then save as .wav. I renamed the file as an .ac3 but when i load it into headac3he to convert it to a wav file. it says
"bad syncword at frame 16. The stream is probably corrupt"
how do i fix this?

Just load the avi file in TMPEnc and select "Output to Wav" file. As long as you have the correct codecs installed you can convert your ac3 avi audio straight to a wav file.
