  1. Ok,
Need some help. Have a Dell 4400, with CD-R/CD-RW drive. Got hooked on burning CDs. Then.....somehow started trying to burn VCD's. Now, the prospect of burning DVD's is enticing....is this an addiction? lol.

Anyway...far as I can see, here is what I need.

    1. Do I need a new DVD Writer (hardware)?????
-I currently have a _NEC NR-7900A (from Dell) and under properties it says DVD/CDR Drive.......
-Does this mean I can burn DVD's?

    2. Burning Software- recommendations?

    3. Do I need anything else?

Thanks all. I know its a trivial post, but want to make sure I am not missing anything.

    1. Sony dru500, 4x DVD-R and als DVD+R/W support.
    2. InstantDVD or Nero
    3. You probably need a good dvd authoring tool cause the included ones usually suck(mydvd).

  3. Ok....
I finally burned my first successful vcd with easyvcd. Had to use CD-rw to play on my dvd.

Now, I am considering purchasing Nero. If I do, how can I make sure I can burn a DVD with my current hardware? Or, will Nero provide that through the software?

    Thanks.

  4. Hi,

You cannot burn dvd, as you can se on your drive it is written DVD/CDR and not DVDR/CDR your drive is only a dvd player that can burn cd. so you need a dvd writer such as pioneer A04 (dvd-r) or hp 200i (dvd+r)

  6. my recommendation is ..get a dvd burner that can burn both dvd-r or dvd+r..so far there are 2 manufacturer tht I know sony and nec...don't remember the model number....with that you can maximize the use of that dvd-burner and you are not tied to one kind of media...

as far as burning software is concern....I used Nero before then I started getting skip and freezes then I switch to Recordnow Max and it worked for me..try to download the trial version from nero first to see if that work before buying the product...

    just my 2 cents
