Hello everyone,
Ok...after 2 days of trying stuff, I need some more help. If anyone could tell me how to get the tmpgenc to recongnize a file I would really appreciate it. Here's what I've been doing...
I've got Virtual PC 4.0.2 with windows 95. I've got the windows media player installed as well (latest version). I've been trying to use the latest version of tmpgenc but I've had no luck with it being able to open my files. It appears to be working fine in windows 95, it's just that it won't open my movie files. These files are on the "shared folder" that I created. I have exported my imovies in idvd, and have used quicktime 4 pro to create .avi files. They are bigger than 2 gb files, but I've read that it shouldn't matter.
What are the exact steps in using tmpgenc that a person needs to follow? Am I trying to open the file incorrectly? I feel like if someone here could give me each and every specific step they are using, I could have some success. Right now I'm doing something wrong. I do have the option of upgrading to window's 98 if I need to.
I am obviously a newbie at this, and I really appreciate any assistance I can get. Toast titanium's quality of VCD's was poor, and I'd really love to be able to have the success at making quality vcd's the way people have described on this forum.
thank you,
lw

try the following to chase the problem :
- try with a small test file, e.g. 2-seconds length in various formats including MPG1.
- try copying the files to the C: disk.
- try installing Quicktime on your virtual PC so as to use the quicktimes without converting to AVI.
- try with TMPEnc v. 12a which has been reported better than almost all further versions.
- try installing Windows 98 anyway, it's way better than 95

The problem is the 2gig limit on Win9x.
I have overcome this by segmenting my imovie into 1gig clips. Using QT Pro, paste all the clips together, save as "normal" allow dependencies (mov will be in the k's). With the QT import installed in the TMPGEnc folder, proceed with your encode.
Win 2000 does not have this limit. Good Luck -
Ok...now I've got Windows 2000 on my virtual PC 4. Tmpgenc does now show the exported idvd movie in the preview section. However, now when I push the "start" button, it sounds like it's working, but it will then say that it "can not open file."
I thought I had it working this time.
I also exported with quicktime 4 on the mac side to .avi format. tmpgenc still can't recognize this file.
any advice will be appreciated.

Forget TmPGenc, IT SUCKS! BETTER TRY ASTARTE M.PACK (commercial software) its faster, better and more stable ...

you probably dont have the right codecs on your system try the krystal studio pack in the tools section to the left it worked for me

Sorry but Astarte M.Pack is only good for static images. When there is lots of action in the video content, M.Pack encodes shite resulting in blocky mpegs.
So don't use M.Pack unless you want your VCD to look like invasion of the blockheads...
