  1. I need a little help with the VCD menus I'm trying to make with VCD
Easy. So far, every VCD I create works, except for displaying the
menu when I play it in my standalone player. No problems otherwise,
themain movie looks great and chapters are perfect. Here's what I currently do to add the menu. I use the MPEG Stills tool in VCD Easy to generate an MPEG from a .JPG file I have. Looks fine, I add it to the list
(unchecked, right?) and I burn. Like I said, the VCD plays great, but
every time my menu displays a blank screen rather than the menu image
from VCD Easy. I know it has burned it because the playback starts
after 15 seconds which is what I set it to in VCD Easy. Any help with
    this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you checked the comments on your DVD player in the list on this site (DVD Players link on the left)? It's possible that it doesn't support VCD menu stills. I've also heard that getting a newer version of MJPEGTools from the vcdeasy server fixes some people's menu/still problems.

  4. You're absolutely right sterno, thanks. My Pioneer DV-440 wouldn't play the menu stills I created but other DVD players played them just fine. It's a shame because otherwise the DV-440 is a great unit. Thanks for the help.

A workaround you might try is using tmpgenc to encode your menu image to a single-frame (S)VCD MPG file, I think you'd need to add it as an actual video clip rather than a still. You may have to play with the PBC setup for that clip to make it do exactly what you want, though.

    Thanks again,

  7. I've got a DV-444, and have the same problem too, what I don't understand is...

if I make a VCD in Nero with it's terrible "simple menus" they display fine (the stills) so my question is, what is the difference between the way in which NERO and EASYVcd make their stills?

One displays them (nero) and one doesn't (Easy vcd).

Is there a VCD flag not being set correctly?! just a guess..
