  1. I currently have a Samsun DVD-M101 and as you all well know it sucks for any "homemade" discs, whether they be CD-R's, CD-RW's, DVD-R's etc.

I'm looking for a DVD player for $150 and under that will consistently play CD-R's (that I can burn @ 40X) and maybe DVD+RW's (for the future). It does not have to play MP3's, but that would be a nice bonus. What I'm looking for is a Player that is very flexible when it comes to playing CD-R's. I've looked up many different players in the compatibility forum, but you get so many conflicting results that I don't know if I can trust any of them. What are you guys using that works for you? What options do I have? Thanks a lot!

  2. See if you can get hold of an Alba DVD114 where you are. I just bought 3 of them in the UK for only £69.99 each. They are multiregion out of the box. They play VCD and SVCD without a hack. CDR, CDRW and MP3. I hav'nt tried any recordable DVD media, but the compatability lists, shows them to be compatible with DVD-r and DVD-rw, not sure about DVD+r/+rw.

These players are an absolute bargain, plays everything and nice slimline design too. Scart connector, Svideo out, coax and optical for 5.1, and phono outputs for stereo. The only gripe I would have is that the remote is a bit cheap looking, but this really is me just nitpicking.

Weighing this player up, considering price, performance and features. I would definately give it 10 out of 10.

  3. I would recomend any Cyberhome player, the new 505 inparticular. Plays anything you throw at it.

  6. I think some of the Apex players have fairly recently had VCD compatability removed.
