I have a sony digital camcorder (DCR-TRV20) and a SONY VAIO
notebook (XG29).
I am transfering videos from my camcorder to the notebook
through the i.LINK(IEEE 1394) interface. VAIO comes bundled with DVgate Motion software. However the video is captured in AVI format. A 1 min video in lo resolution is about 200 Mbytes. I want to transfer about 1 hrs worth of video and therefore need about 12 Gbs of space. I could transfer to disk and then convert it to MPEG however I would rather have the capture and conversion to MPEG be done at the same time.
Is there any software( freeware or sharware) which does this ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

There are quite a few applications that can capture direct to MPEG, however, in order for them to work, your camera most be recognised in Windows as a VFW device.
