CD-RW and VCDeasy/CDRDAO

Hi there,

I use VCDeasy to make (S)VCDs on my Win2k machine, which is equipped with a Yamaha 2100S re-writer and an Adaptec 2940 with ASPI 4.71. Before burning my encoded material to CD-R, I'd like to do CD-RW test-runs on my standalone DVD Player to see if I got the encoding right.

Each and everytime I've used a CD-RW with VCDeasy/CDRDAO the RW was not erasable/re-writable anymore after that. I can use RWs in Nero over and over, but once written to in VCDeasy/CDRDAO, that's it with re-using the disc. The (S)VCD does work perfectly well, but it is not erasable anymore. Spoilt 6 RWs so far, different speeds, brands, capacities.

I helped myself by creating bin/cue files with VCDeasy and writing them to CD-RW with Nero.

Any ideas?

I've never had a problem doing that (different burner, though). What does it tell you when you try to blank one of these discs? And have you tried both fast blank (just wipes the TOC) and full blank (erases the entire RW, takes forever but works on some that won't quick-erase)?

The disc is not recognized as a RW anymore, so I do not have any chance to erase it.

I've had a similar problem with 3 CD-RW's, however my problem is a little worse. Not only can I not erase the discs, but the discs are completely unreadable by ANY CD drive. The drive seems to go into an endless cycle of attempting to read the disc, and can't. I'm using VCDEasy 1.1.2 in a Win2K machine. When I attempt to erase the disc, or even when trying to Show CD Information, I get:

WARNING: Unit not ready, still trying... (repeats a lot)
ERROR: A CD is required
ERROR: Unit not ready, giving up.
ERROR: Cannot setup device 1,0,0.

I'm using the Force Driver = generic-mmc-raw setting, which is the one recommended for my driver (IDE-CD R/RW 4x4x24).

Can anyone help?

Ah, thought I was going crazy, I've had similar problems using different R/W media in an internal IDE Samsung Combo Drive 308B. (DVD CD-R CD-R/W). Using Windows ME. I can eventually get them recognized and erased using Old Adaptek Easy CD Creator. Even so, they are only recognized by the drive sporadically after that. Have tried different settings but no change in results. CD-R works fine. For some reason they are more likely to be recognized after a cold boot, but not alway. Sorry it's not a solution. At least you're not alone.

I have had very similar problems using VCDEasy and CDRDAO. After burning the cd I can play it in my standalone DVD player or on the computer, but I have great difficulity erasing the CDRW. I have never had this problem with other burning software.

In one instance, I tried formatting using INCD and ended up with only approximately a 20 MB CD - I assume that is what was remaining from the SVCD.

I have read suggestions about only saving the bin/cue file in VCDEasy and using another program to burn the CD. I am now experimenting with this. I tried using Nero to burn the bin file and it seemed to work, although I read a post that Nero did not write proper bin files - still working...

I never had a problem with VCD Easy. I did however have a problem with Nero where it continously said "recognizable media" after having burned a cd-rw. I naturally rebooted the machine and took out my trusty Easy CD Creator and it had no problems in reformatting the disk. What I thought was a coaster was then saved by Easy CD Creator.

I had this prob a few years ago with WinonCD but conned the prog by inserting a useable CD-RW untill the last stage before blanking began, then removing it and reinserting the unerasable one. I currently have 5 stubborn CD-RWs created with Nero. I will try to blank with WinonCD. I'll tell you what happens.

I've also had this problem with the most recent version of VCDEasy and my Samsung 208B 8/8/32 CDR/RW burner using TDK CD-RW's. I can burn it just fine the first time through but after it's been burned once, right after blanking the disc it does the "Warning Unit not ready, still trying.." bit and gives up.

Enter NTI CD Maker 2000. I can blank the disc every time but VCDEasy/CDRDAO still doesn't recognize it. Solution? Daemon tools and the NTI CD Maker 2000 software that came with my burner. Daemon tools lets me mount the bin/cue as a virtual CD-ROM drive, then I just use the "Copy" portion of the NTI software.

CDR's work just fine in the current version of VCDEasy.

I'm seeing exaclty the same problem as the original poster.
I use the last free release of vcdeasy.
I can write to my cd-rw just fine but if I try to use the disc again it cannot be erased.
I tried erasing the disc using nero as well but it doesn't let me do it.
In nero I get the error message - disc cannot be erased - check that it is the correct format or that the surface has no scratches.
There is no problem with the discs as they are brand new and the problem happens consistently with each cd-rw I use.
I'm using a Buffalo CD writer (It's a Japanese model) and it uses the generic Phillips driver included with winxp.

Did anybody ever work out a cure for this problem?

after some investigation it seems there may be an incompatability between vcdeasy and haivng Nero (incd) on the same machine.
My cdrws were unusable after being written with vcdeasy. I could not even erase them using Nero or incd. However, after removing vcdeasy from my machine I was able to erase the cdrws using incd and Nero and they became completely usable again.
Anybody have any idea on how I can get vcdeasy to behave and not have to remove incd from my machine - which I rely on a lot.
