  1. For me I would say
    1. Verbatim data life plus (dark blue layer)
    2. Fuji (Taiyo-yuden) I havent seen fuji from CMC yet.

And it depends on where you live also. Some brands might not sell there but anyway you can order online.

  2. ok, i might sound like a total idiot, but i never even cared to think about it. for people who care about this kinda thing, what exactly do you look for? i don't mean the brand or manufacturer, but detailed specifications, like how long they last, etc.

Not limited in anyway. I have heard all over VCDHelp.com about troubles
with VCD's not playing correctly due to burning speeds. Since I was a
Newbie when I started burning them at 4x I just kept it at that. If it
is not broken why fix it? Besides, at 4x I can start the burn and do other
things around the house and come back after about 15 - 20 minutes and
    have my movie all finished.

BTW: Nice system. Good to see a few "Slow Pokes" still around here.
(Just browse my system details and you'll see)

Yeah doesnt it feel like your a minority. Seems like most people I talk to have an AMD Athlon or P4 anymore. Nice to find others that are still making do like me.

wait until you got a hold on cheap cdrs and top layer pill off in your valuable player or after a while your important backup cdr cannot be read and you'll understand why it's important.

  5. That's right...

Cheap media can often be good but the problem is that you don't know who has made and the manufacturer can be different between batches. Sure, you feel pretty good when you buy a good batch cheaply, but when some CDs start failing a year or so later, you start to get scared about your data...

BTW, you can't rely on the ATIP data to tell you who made the disc!!

  6. oh yea. i think the first batch of CD-Rs i got started pealing a couple of months after being used. but those were the generic brand, from DigitalMedia. lol. it had a silver bottom and silver top. so then that's when i started using those labels. took too much time, so i just went one step up, and started getting Circuit City CD-Rs. i used up one spindle, and i got 2 more. i know they're not the best, but until i find a major flaw in them, they're good for now.

    Peeling? I never knew this could happen. I hope I didn't do a major boo-boo, but I bought 300 Imation 4x (I only write 4x and under) for $45.00!

That's .15 cents a piece, in full sized, individually wrapped, jewel cases, and packaged 10 to a box.

    Nothing has happened yet...

I've bought Sony, Memorex and no-name silver/silver cdr's and so far, I've yet to make a coaster with the Imation's! Weird. I just hope I got a good deal because they were the outdated 4x and not because they are going to start peeling

PS: Have only made data & music cd's so far. Does that matter?

  8. WishMaker...

if your question deals with the kinds of CDs you've made and pealing, then ... no, they won't peal due to the kind of CDs you've made. i think the only reason they pealed was because they were generic and had silver tops. oh, and a long time ago, i put a label on one of those silver-top CDs. i made a mistake when i was stomping it, so i tried pulling it off. the silver "stuff" just "cracked" right off. not that it really did crack, but came off in chunks, kinda. it was totally transparent, where it pealed. if i'm ever gonna get silver-top CDs again, i'll make sure it's a name brand, lol. but i probably won't get silver-top CDs anymore, anyway.
