  1. here's the story. i have a PC, and also have an IBOOK, which if it were as capable as my PC [Nero, SVCDs, GrabIt, etc] would be my only machine.

so the PC burns SVCDs of video that my DVD player [an APEX] will play perfectly. but the ibook chokes on them.

i tried to drop my friend, an apple employee, a disc NERO burned in Win2k as SVCD from a 480x480 mpeg2 file [one that we tried and made SURE it worked with the PC and the DVD player!], but QT6 with the MPEG-2 package installed and registered all the way to hell, WOULD NOT PLAY IT. Kept saying "I/O Error" or something like that. both on his Ibook AND my own. Both running 0SX.2!

Steve needs a slap across the face.

ALL I WANT is for the damn idiot mac to play the effing discs that everything else I own will play, [not with that sick ass DivxDoctor CRAP that converts and mangles divx files so that the PC won't recognize them, not with some other mac-side hackaround either.] I've read this forum and others elsewhere, and it seems no one has my particular problem.

Is this a shortcoming of Nero?
Does the ibook just hate the way NERO authors these files?
Is there some minor tweak I'm missing somewhere?

any help would be appreciated. TIA...

  2. For the record, EVERYBODY has your problem.
Slap Steve around till OS X supports mode 2 cd disks.
VLC will access and play the mpeg track off of the disk, however.
And VCD Copy X will extract the mpegs to your hard drive.

  3. I use VIC version 4.42 or something like that. and I can watch every VCD or SVCD even stuff burned with Nero from a PC

The problem I'm having is that I can't burn it to my own cd's, it just sits there on my hard drive. I've tried Toast 5.0, converting it to a .bin file and Quicktime nothing will work on this to convert it. If you have any insight I'd love to hear it.

  4. Madpeds: If I understand, you cannot burn Nero .nrg files.
I put together a patch to rip that type of disk, but I have no .nrg images to test it with.
    Download it at homepage.mac.com/rnc/tools.html

  5. Thanks Ross, but nothing seems to work, I can watch it with VideoLan, but that's it. It's an mpg file, but a bad one I guess. Looks like Hang em High won't make it into the collection. I was hopeful that one of those tools on the site would work, but nada.
