I follow the instructions given from Doom9's DVD9 to DVD5 Guide. After several weeks of research and experiment, I finally got it works. I ripped "40 Days and 40 Night" off the DVD and remux into DVD5 format. It plays back fine with subtitle and Dolby Digital sound. The only problem I have is it skips the first part of movie and went staight to the cell 2 (highlighted). Check the picture down below and see the final VTS_01_0.INFO content.

After troubleshooting, I assuming there is something wrong in the IFO file and should be a easy fix. Since I am not familiar with IFO structure, so I don't know where to start. Is there a way to make changes to IFO file and have it play from the beginning? Does it have anything to do with VIDEO_TS.IFO?

Also I heard IFOedit is not working well in Windows XP environment. Could that also be the issue to my problem? It does works fine for me from the start to the end.

Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome. Thanks.

  2. "remux"?

Does that mean you keept all the menus and extras?

Or did you just rip the movie part and stripped out extra
audio and subtitles that you did not need?

Or was it still over 4500MB (4.39GB) after that?

  3. You could try to edit the first play using IFOEdit. Set to point to pmg 1 or title 1.

    tonyp12:
I stripped the menu and the extra out and it was less than 4.3GB in size.

    Fredrick:
You got to the point. I would like to know how do you set to point to pmg 1 or title 1.

So why do you say Remux (as in transcoding)?

    Follow this guide by "enemywithin"

Only need DVD decrypter, IFOedit and Nero for a complete copy of the Movie.

If you do it right from the start it probably takes care of your problems.

I have tried Enemywithin's instructions but it doesn't works for movies more than 4.3GB (for less than 4.3GB, it works fine) I end up using Doom9's DVD9 to DVD5 guide instead.

I did remux (transcoding) using TMPGenc as instructed. Everything been stripped down and remove. The only thing left is just main movie, English subtitle and Dobly Digital sound. The total size is about 2.4GB (I did the bitrate way too low :P ). The original size is 5.65GB.

But is it around 5GB before or after you strip out the extra audio?

    For example:

    JOYRIDE DVD, the movie part:
    5.25 GB (5,646,172,160 bytes)

After IFOedit and 4 audio streams stripped out it is:
    4.33 GB (4,654,792,704 bytes)

So it will fit just fine on a DVDR without reencoding/transcoding.

5.65GB is after removed the extras. The whole movie is about 7 or 8GB in size. I have to re-encode it in order to make it small. I end up make it too small.... 2.4GB :P

  9. When I have trouble starting a movie I edit the VIDEO_TS.IFO. Open up VIDEO_TS.IFO with IFOEdit. Click on WMGM_MAT and you should get a First Play PCG subfolder. Scroll down to PGC Command table at the bottom. You should see one or more Pre commands. You right click on the command line to edit. I usually set every line to NOP except the last line. I usuall set this line to (JumpSS_VMG_M) Jump to VMG PGC: 1 and save. You can also Try (Jump_TT) Jump to Title: 1. If I don't do this my Pioneer Player won't play the disk where my other players are more forgiving. If you look in the movie IFO it usually states it is a PGC 1. Hope this helps.

Mmm..... seems working but not completely. I guess we are in the right location.

Since it's a little skip in the front, I am just going to let it go. But it's good thing that Fredrick point out this fix. It's going to help a lot of us in the future.

    Thanks again.

  12. I'm working on that same movie now.

    I used: retain angle1 on dvd_decrypter.

IFO edit shows that two vobid's are angle2

    So I stripped-OUT vob ID 2 and 5 (and Frensh/Spanish A/S)

I will see if remuxing this one back after tmpgen got a shoot at it.
that have never worked for me soo far with any movie.
