  1. Hi,

I want to add text to my mpg and avi's. I need it to be like the end of movie credits - non-scrolling. How do I do this?

    Thanks

When you mean non-scrolling, do you mean it does NOT go from top to bottom nor vice versa?

You can use an editor with a subtitle filter. You may use SubStation Alpha to write the text or just type it in notepad if you know how the subtitle file should look like. Then you can add the text to a video clip or blank clip. After that join the clip with the main movie or add it to the VCD as a seperate track, as you like.

  4. You could use Virtualdub and the logo filter.

Lets you fade in the TEXT (or any type of Graphics)
    on top of video.

  5. Thanks, I will try it, but it sounds complicated. If there is an easier way, please let me know.

What I want to achieve is to video my house and as I enter a different room, have a large title to say what room it is, such as "My Bedroom". I need to be able to change the number of frames this title occupies as sometimes, a particular uninteresting room is only filmed for 1-2 secs. I also need to be able to change the size of this title.

I am new to this, so please be non-technical when answering!

    Thanks!

Logo is fine for putting logos in your video, but not for subtitling. Make the subtitles in Sub Station Alpha, along with the size you want them, how long you want them to appear, and when. Save the file, go to VDub, add the subtitler filter, and voilá!

  7. Excellant! Thanks for our help. Just one more thing.

How do I position this text in the middle of the screen? Will it use my video as backdrop?

    Thanks

If you have it appear in the preview window ofthe subtitler, itwill show you exactly how it will appear in your video.

After I capture in Virtual Dub & change to MPEG in TmpGenc, I then use Ulead's Video Studio6 to make any title, fancy or not, and just save the title as a clip. Make sure that you use "Template from an existing file" so that it agrees with the TmpGenc settings used before. Save the title clip (only) to a file and append with TmpGenc. Very simple and powerful. You can keep the clip for future use, if needed.

Well, I say the proof of the pudding is in the eating Gadgethead. Take a peek here

The image is a little grainy because I had to convert to .asf for my server to accept it, so you can see it. But the subtitles were made by Sub Station Alpha, Virtual Dub is responsible for the two filters used here.

The first is Logo to place my unit's emblem where it is. I made it dark to make a more dramatic effect.

The second was subtitler, to place the subtitles where you see them.
    Hello.

  11. Thanks for all your help. Since Tommyknocker was able to show me a working example (and I have the programs he mentioned), I will give this a go first.

    Thanks again, ALL!
