BZZT. Wrong answer. Electronically they are EQUAL. It is purely the better optics & CCDs that give the DV cams their edge. As passthru devices they are the same (that also goes for the $2500 VX2000!). At least, this was the case 2 years ago. Given the ease in keeping the electronics good enough to not be a factor, I'd need proof otherwise. Sounds like a marketing misprint somewhere...Originally Posted by thebatjeep

For all that its worth I had the same delemer but, if you are going to buy some thing now-a-days, I try to stick with the common....
In saying this I researched for months before making a choice, and when it can time to buy I bought MiniDV...!
My choice was the "Canon Mv-550i" only because it offered a x22 Optical Zoom, it give good still photos, and it is conveinently small.
The bonus with Canon is that as I am in a small city in Australia, they have a service & repair centre here, and can usually repair within the week.
Tapes I buy in bulk so I can get Higher Quality tapes for around AU$8 to AU$10.
I suppose it was for the simplicity of the Zoom and Camera size I went this way.
Hope this helps.Regards,
