  1. I'm trying to convert a Divx AVI to DVD, but I encountered sync problems when I extracted to a wave file with VirtualDub.
    There's a gunshot at 20:59 that I don't hear until 21:02 and there's a door being kicked open at 54:34 that I don't hear until 54:40.

Now the source file has no sync problems, and if I do a direct stream copy to MP3 in VirtualDub, then that file doesn't have a problem either.
However, when I then try to convert the MP3 file to Wav (I've tried MP3toWav and WinAmp), then it has the exact same delays.

Is there something that I'm overlooking, or is there something special about this MP3?

  2. Do you need to uncompress the audio?......
    Is it VBR ?
If th source has no sync problems then just encode with TMPGE as is.

  3. Thanks for your suggestion, I reencoded with TMPEG, but unfortunately the resulting MP2 file had the same delay.

I need an uncompressed WAV because my DVD player (Sony Playstation 2) wont play MP2 as far as I know, besides, my DVD authoring program (MyDVD) doesn't allow MP2 and converts it to uncompressed WAV anyway.

I think the audio stream is VBR. When VirtualDub shows different sizes in the Min/Avg/Max frame size of the audio stream, does that mean it's VBR?

I find this whole thing a bit strange, this is only the second DVD that I'm trying to burn though (second ever that is, I'm not suggesting I'm having problems with the second part of a movie), but I had no problems at all with the first one.

I think I have no choice but to correct the WAV with an audio editor and hope that this was just a fluke.

  4. If it was VBR audio it would tell you as soon as you opened Virtualdub.
The timing of the delayed audio tells me that the out of sync problem is a gradual one (ie:3 sec delay for 1st example and 6 sec delay for 2nd).
So,you may want to try this:
