I have one interesting question:
I have been looking lately at several single-tray home dvd players and found out that some weigh much heavier than others even with the same dimensions!!! Does a heavier DVD player means more components are installed and thus the DVD player will play more formats ??? Can anyone explain??? Of course, I would love to buy the lightest one and yet be able to play most formats.

weight only mean heavier coponents. some players slide back if you push a button on the front panel. check out the dvd player compatibility link on the left for what formats you are looking for in a player.

Weight use to mean that it may be better built...but I don't think thats the case now.
Nothing in a DVD player weighs that much now...and most issues about different formats are firm ware differences (the way the DVD player is programed by manufacturer to respond to different types) so this would add no weight either...
