I did. If you did not like my answer, oh well.
    Hello.

  5. I asked what the technical differences are. Not that one has more compression than the other. I want to know what those ratios are and what the psychical difference are of an MPEG1 en MPEG2 file. And how the are built.

I can understand that nobody really want's to know. But I want to know it. That is precisely why I put it in Off Topic...

Well its like asking the difference between 2 trees, sure I can look at the trees and tell you want kind they are, I can describe their characteristics. I can even tell you which one I think is the better of the 2 trees. However, very few people out there can describe the actual physical difference between the 2 other then appearance.

MPEG2 has better compresson so people often prefer to work with it over MPEG1, but I think you'll be hard pressed to find someone who is so into MPEG that he can describe the technical differences inside the different codecs, thats for the people who made the codec, not really for those using it.

But good luck in your search...

  7. Are we looking at different trees? Is MPEG1 not the same as MPEG2?

Is the compression really different? Howcome it's possible to demux an MPEG2 to a MPEG1 file in TMPGenc without any loss of quality????

Can we conclude that there is no such thing as MPEG2? Only an MPEG1 layer 2?? Just the same as we have audio MPEG1 Layer 1 to 3?

So Divx can never be MPEG4 cause there is no such thing as MPEG 2 and 3...

Just something to think about...and enlighten me....please

I believe mpeg and mpeg2 use a different compression algorithm. That's why they compress differently.

I'm not entirely sure, but mpeg and mpeg2 have a different ISO standard. So technically, they are different.

I did some research on the subject about a year ago, so the information isn't fresh. You should be able to find out a lot, by using any search engine, like google.
