  2. Try TMPGEnc,it's free and it's located in "Tools".

ASFTOOLS can cut and join wmv (asf) but has an added option of converting to avi.

I haven't tried it but it may be worth a look.

There's a link on the left under Other....Tools....
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  4. You can use TMPGEnc, but I've found that whenever I select the .wmv file as both the audio and movie, it usually comes out with no sound. So what you should do is :

    1) rename .wmv file to .asf
    2) open it in ASFTOOLS
    3) convert it to .wav
    4) open up the .asf file in TMPGEnc, select the wav that you created before as the audio. It should burn out fine.

I can't seem to get this wmv file to work!

Okay, I can view the file as it is in windows media player, however, if I try to convert it to avi or mpeg I get the audio stream fine, but no VIDEO stream!

I have tried using the ASFTOOLS, GSPOT, TMPGENC, STOIK VIDEO PAK. They all say there is no video stream or it's not supported.

However, when I used ASFTOOLS and converted the wmv file to avi, it would start to load in wmp and then there would be a request for a codec. Eventually, I would get a pop up window saying that it 'the class is not registered' and that is all! Any ideas?

    Thanks!
    I propose a toast....

  6. The exacly same thing happens to me when I try to convert WMV9 files to AVI. The converted file is larger than the original and only sound is played. Btw. WM9 files do not work correcly with WMP 6.4, you should use 8/9 or ZoomPlayer, it seems that wm9 codec has both video and audio in the same package and 6.4 is unable to use the video part.

Anyways, since WMV9 is quite nice compressor, but because of the asf container cannot use any avi features it is not very useful. If anyone knows how to convert this new WMV9 to avi with correct framerate, please let us know.
