If your mpeg file is less than 800mb and your burning it as a vcd or svcd then it will fit on an 80min cd.
in the (S)VCD mode of burning; 800mb will fit on 700mb disc because its burning in mode 2 -

well when i did convert with Nero, it's telling me it needs a bigger CDR to fit the 776mb movie on the cd and im using 700mb cd, so it won't burn it, keeps spitting the cdr out, i hate to cancel the job then i would have to start encoding all over again
HELP
this sucks

you need to go setup nero to allow overburn- set for 82min. You also have to have the disc at once box checked.

will i loose the current encoding? sounds like i might have to start over. then i can save it change my settings on nero like you said and i hope for the best

are you using nero to do the encoding? If you are you wont get the best results. i suggest using some other software to encode your movie. the results will be much better.
-
yes i am, can you tell me your best recommendation for an encoder? then i will use Nero to burn it according your specs also can i get your email if i have more q&a? plus is have old pc which take forever to encode

im assuming your avi is a divx file correct? Here is a guide that will walk you through taking an divx file and making it an SVCD and then you can burn your SVCD to a cd. With the quality of the encoding you will probably need to put it on 2 cd's.

take it step by step and all should work -
yes you are correct again divx, ok i can still use nero to burn on two cd? sounds like to have to split the movie, according the link you sent me anything over 60 min svcd might have to cut, or i will just get DVD-Rs which hold 4gb of space
-
yes you can still use nero. following that guide you will end up with 2 files. in nero just select SVCD and burn each file to a disc.
ps encoding will take some time but well worth it. -
so im better off getting DVD-Rs every use them? well if im right you don't need a dvd burner, you can use them to burn bigger mpeg onto the cd
-
If you want to. I have never used them because i dont have a dvd burner.
So i cant help you with any dvd burning issues
