  1. I looked for answers but didn't quite find what I was looking for. I am new to this and wonder if someone could explain the differences between vcd, svcd, mpeg 1, mpeg 2, and mpeg4. It is my understanding that mpeg4 is new but the other standards have been around for a bit. Any info appreciated.

    but shorty, the basics

    mpeg-1 = VCD
    mpeg-2 = SVCD, DVD
mpeg-4 = I think something that microsoft originally invented or bought and then modified and developed into DivX and such... ... don't remember exactly.. please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong.

BUT NOTE THIS: VCD, SVCD and DVD are only Standards that are based on the compressions of mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 (with certain settings). You don't have to follow those standards if you are gonna do something else... like only make an mpg file and keep on your computer..
    Thanx/
