I am looking for an alternate to VHS and something that is more versatile than a standalone DVD recorder like the Panasonic DMR-E30.
I am thinking about buying one of the new Sony DRU500A internal DVD / CDRW recorders. Is there any way to use my video capture card to record directly from the TV to the DVD without using CCE or tmpgenc to encode?
Will this work?
Thanks
Steven

You can capture directly to mpeg2 with for example powervcr http://www.vcdhelp.com/tools#capture . THe quality may not be the best, do a search for powervcr in this forum for more info.
