  1. I encoded my first DivX file yesterday ( ) on my PC with 450Mhz with TMPGEnc. It was 800MB but only approximately 40 minutes. This encoding took roughly 8 hours and 40 minutes. Then, when I tried to burn it to a XVCD using Nero, a dialog popped up about overburning. I gave no concern to it and said yes. Last night, I shut down my PC. When I turned it on, it started to boot and then just shut off. I tried for about an hour. I noticed that something inside the tower was just dying off. Also, my burner was making strange noises. Finally, it worked. Did I push my burner too much or is it a problem with my CPU?

If you selected VCD in nero then 800mb will burn just fine- should not affect anything. but if it was burnt ad data cd then that may affect your cdr drive. Just guessing but i would say its something else wrong.

  3. I burnt with VCD mode. I used the http://www.vcdhelp.com/neroxvcd.htm tutorial for burning the VCD. I used the tutorial for TMPGEnc: http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgencxvcd.htm.

  4. Do you think I overclocked my CPU? Will it have a problem if I perform a Shut Down?

When your system boots it tries to post all the drives. If there is a bad disk in the drive it may be having problems intializing it.

Was the vcd ok or was the disk no good.

After you check it remove it before you reboot.

How comfortable are you in checking your bios settings?
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

  6. The VCD is okay. I'm not very good with BIOS and that sort of thing. There were no invalid floppy disks or CDs of that nature in my PC when I rebooted. However, my CPU speed may have been overclocked or modified. It usually shows up as 450Mhz. When I restarted, the BIOS page popped up. I changed the speed to 333Mhz. Then, it turned on and shut down in the middle. I changed it back and forth a couple of times. In the end, 450Mhz was the answer.

  7. I think I've figured out the problem! I think that when I restarted the PC, the CPU speed changed itself. My PC is pretty strange sometimes. Oh well. I guess I shouldn't try encoding until I buy a new motherboard and CPU. I'm looking into at least 1Ghz. Thanks for all the help!

  8. Uh oh! There have been two recent developments: this occurs everytime I shut down or restart my PC and my PC won't start with a CD in the CD Writer Drive. What does anyone think of that?
