Adam, you could probably answer this. Is there a filter for VirtualDub, that will perform IVTC during capture? I've been capturing telecined material at 29.97, and then going in after the capture, as a second step, to perform the IVTC via VirtualDub. I don't know who much CPU is required for this, but the load on my PC is typically less than 30% during capture, and rarely peaks above 50%. Can someone suggest a good capture IVTC filter?

  2. The problem with VDub and IVTC is deleting the extra frames, this has to be done on a second pass (using Avisynth), SFAIK. The IVTC for VDub did NOT delete frames, just make a AviSynth script to do it. All the Vdub filter did was selectively remove the interlacing.

For captured input DVD2AVI evaluation is meaningless, you have to view for the 3-P/2-I frame configuration. DVD2AVI is talking about the pulldown flag, and/or its only remedial action is to remove the flag.

While IVTC has been discussed numerous times, and DVD2AVI also, This is the FIRST post I have seen where the specific method of DVD2AVI achieving FORCED FILM has been discussed and most especially its relevance to CAPTURED material, rather than DVD rips. I searched for this answer in vain for some time before determining the truth thru trial and error, which left me wondering if there could be a better way.

BTW, this is a general problem for many aspects of video in that DVD rip is assumed to be the source. This is most likely due to the numbers of people doing each and is not meant as a criticism of this board or anyone on it. Just to note that some questions make more sense, and some answers less, when viewed with regard to capture rather than rip.

I just discovered the joys of AVISynth. I guess I'll continue to do a second pass to IVTC my captures. It doesn't take too long, all things considered.
