  1. I currently xfer FROM:VHS,8mm,Hi8,S-VHS TO:MiniDV,VHS,S-VHS and FROM:8mm/16mm film TO:MiniDV,VHS,S-VHS. I want to transfer these formats to DVD-R for my customers. I'd like to use a set-top DVD burner like the Pioneer PRV-9000/DVR-7000 or Panasonic HS-2. For telecine I'm considering an interface HD Drive controller like the Focus Enhancements FireStore. My proposed work flow: 8mm/16mm film>MiniDV Camera>DV Mixer>FireStore>Set-top DVD Burner. Please advise me!

I bought a WorkPrinter 2 for R/S8mm to video. Best method around to use for DV. I make SVCDs and now may settle on CVDs to later put onto DVD-+R disks.

sounds like a plan except the firestore analog outputs are 4:1:1 8 bit (same as NTSC-DV) color it appears ..

other than that you dont need much else ..

storing and working in a compressed format of course has its own drawbacks - and you will be limited greatly in noise reduction which you really will need as well as some color correction from some of your sources .. perhaps your dv editor can do that (and TBC functions) ..

you could skip the firewriter and dv outboard editor and i would suggest a AVID DV 3.5 system for both capture and editing and color correction and filtering ..
output it to a dvd writer outboard ..

a very good item is a DV transcoder .. Laird 5500 is one of the best (if you need any analog I/O)

  4. carterma,

What is a WorkPrinter2 and who makes/sells them?

    BJ_M,

    Thanks for your input.
My intention here is to accomplish this process in the most simple, time and cost effective manner possible. Doing this with my PC and a big hard drive, just doesn't seem to fit that description. My idea of the FireStore is to allow me to do "cuts only" editing while transferring from film, prior to encoding through the set-top DVD Recorder.

Question: The FireStore file formats are: AVI-1, AVI-2(for PC), Raw DV and Quicktime (for Mac). Are any of these formats going to be compatible with the set-top DVD Recorder (Pioneer PRV-9000 etc.) ?

Note: my DV mixer does have TBC built into it.

    Thanks,
    Dave Fickas
