Yes, I apologize, that is what I meant to type in my post above. It is a breakout box that plugs right into your FW card. I promise you will not regret getting this device. It is excellent!!!!!!

Do you need it for Scenalyzer to work?
I read on thier website and they did not have that as a requirement?
at the moment I have DV - Firewire.
What does the Canapus do? DV - Canapus - Firewire?
Is it a hardware encoder?

Just buy any 20 dollar or more firewire card if you are only capturing from a firewire source and use Scenalyzer. Scenalyzer is a very powerful and easy to use DV capture program. Since the original poster already has a firewire card, I suggest using Scenalyzer.

I looked it up Canapus ADVC-100.
This is analogue to digital Converter.
DV is already digital you don't need this card unless you are trying to capture from an anolog source like VHS, SAT etc...
The front has the DV input, I gues it is just passing that directly to the firewire card. Like I said you don't need it just plug your DV directly to the firewire card. Thier are firewire cables that go from 4 pin/DV to 6 pin/Firewire.

I've been following this post with interest because I downloaded Scenalyzer but I can't save my capture so that it can playback thru my system using Media Player, says I cannot open. If I drag and drop onto Premier, it says that this file is an unrecognized format.

Heres whats happenning, I have an Addonics 1394/Firewire card and under Scenalyzer it registers for capture device with Microsoft DV camera and VCR. I can see the footage while its playing from my camera fine, I can even hit capture, and it will capture. Problem is when I try to use the file, I can't. does anyone have some suggestions or tips? Do I need a special codec or plugin for this?
