Hi, Can someone please tell me what is the best software to use to encode to Mpeg-1??? I've heard that TMPGEnc is good, i've also heard that a lot of people use Ulead Video Studio. Are these the best or is there anything better?![]()

TMPGEnc is so far the best freeware for MPEG-1 if you use the right settings. Ulead Video Studio is a bit behind. You get more blocks/noise/artifacts/whatever in the output.
When talk about MPEG-1 I assume it is of VCD-compliant spec. If you set the bit rate higher, the difference in quality should be very small. But TMPGEnc allows one to adjust the GOP structure that might make motion look smoother if you know what you are doing. The same for Panasonic MPEG Encoder(not free and quality is close to that of TMPGEnc).
