    Ok here is the deal... I have some vhs tapes that I would like to capture to look like video and then transfer to my mini dv camcorder. My camcorder does not offer pass thru or line in,,, just firewire in/out. I have a pctv capture card which will allow me to capture at high resolution. The problem I am finding is that the captures look like film, not true video. Is there any other solution besides buying a dazzle bridge or Canapus?

    thanks,
    mark

    Umm...

    what do you define as true video? film? it might make more sense if you clarify these points.

    Well camcorder footage is crisp, showing it is obviously video. After doing a capture it resembles movie film. Although it does look nice, I need that video look.

    thanks...

    To make it a bit more clear. Some television shows are shot on video, and some on film. When capturing those shot on video, I want to maintain that look. All captures I have done give it that film look instead.

    Use an interlaced aware sharpening filter. VHS is smooth you are not going to get the look you are going for straight from the capture. Even using the dazzle bridge it's still not going to improve the signal in the way you are thinking.

    I don't know of any for vdub, but you can get the same resoluts by using...

    ViewFields
    <somehsarpen filter>
    UnViewFields

    I would recommend the excellent msharpen or xsharpen filter.

    Always capture at the higest possible resolution wher you don't compromize the compression or frame rate. So if you can 720x480 @ 29.97 YUY2 or UYVY. Use a compression codec like huffyuv or MJPEG.

    Their are how-to guides on this site.
