I recently got into the movie making area of computers for fun. I am having a little trouble with making vcd/svcd. I typically use VCDEasy to make my vcd/svcd. What I have noticed is that they make the bin/que format is track at once. I am not able to get as much data on the disk. Correct me if I am wrong but on 80 min cds you should get 80 minutes of vcd and 40 minutes of svcd. I can only get about 30-35min on svcd. It seems that the size of the file is too large. Now I have seen where people have a 780MB bin que that will fit on a 700MB cd. These always seem to be in disk at once. SO my question is what software would I use to make bin/ques that are disk at once so that I can effeciently utilize my cds?

    Thank you,

    Kris

Correct with VCD because the spec is constant bitrate. But with SVCD, you can fit as much as you want (almost) with variable bitrate but you pay in quality. I think the quality is good up to about 60 min. per disc but I squeeze up to 95-100 min. at the sacrifice of quality. What process are you using to create your SVCDs? If you lower the average bitrate, more time will fit per disc.

Oh, and by the way...the bin-cues I burn to 700MB discs come from DVD2SVCD and run 825MB in size.

I think I understand that you can make these bin/que large but I just need to know how. Maybe a guide or some screen shots of the setting that type of thing. Also what software do you use to make the vcd??

If you want my recommendations you will have to be more specific about what you are wanting to do. Rip DVDs to (S)VCD...convert home movie VHS tapes to (S)VCD...etc. What is your source and what is your desired output? In the meantime, read the sections to the left that you think apply to what you want to do.

    Kricket:

You are completly correct about the SVCD. If you will a 80 minute disk with LESS than 40 minutes of SVCD you have a problems since you are violating the standard of 2x combined audio video. The players MIGHT be able to play it if you are lucky.

    Good luck.
