  1. hi all, I hope someone can help me out. I've been capturing mpeg2 with my AIW 128 for over a year and converting it to mpeg1 with tmpgenc for over a year with no problems, then the other day all of a sudden I started to get the "cannot open, or unsupported" error message. Naturally, I came here trying to find information on this problem. I read that Tmpgenc plus needs to have a third party mpeg2 decoder such as in PowerDVD or WinDVD. I also read posts about the VFAPI plug in settings in enviromental settings. So, I've done the following things:

    1. Installed PowerDVD
    2. Installed WinDVD
    3. Adjusted VFAPI plugin settings
    4. Installed mpeg2 plugin for Tmpgenc
    5. Installed the nimo codecs

But still after all of this, I still cannot open mpeg2 files in tmpgenc. If I open them in WMP, the play in slow motion with no sound. If I open it in ATI MMC 7.1's file player, the file is very dark and corrupted.

    Here's my setup:

    ATI AIW 128
    Athlon 750
    256k Ram
    Windows 98 SE

I'm really at my wits end here, I think I've done what most posts suggested. Maybe something is wrong with the way the programs are installed on my machine?

    Thanks guys

  2. I just tried a capture using MMC 7.1 VCD setting which of course is mpeg1 and it works fine, so this is definately an mpeg2 problem only.

You can bypass the problems by using DVD2AVI. This is where the VFAPI stuff comes in. Open the .mpg in DVD2AVI and save the project as filename.d2v. You can the open this file in MTPGENC if everything is registered properly ( can be checeked under environment options look for d2v project loader ).

    Cheers.
