  1. I am not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I used DVD2AVI to produce the D2V and the WAV. But can't open D2v in TMPGenc. It always gives "can not open, or file unsupported" errors. Acutually the filter in the File-open dialog in TMPGenc only looks for MPG, AVI, etc. but not D2v at all.

use a program called VFAPIConv-EN.exe to convert to the d2v files into a file tmpgenc understands.

In the envoronment settings is the D2v input plugin registered? You could try promoting it if it is registered. If is not registered go back to DVD2avi and make sure that the register vfapi dll is selected and enabled.

    Cheers.

    BJ_M:

I'm confused... TMPGenc can open d2v files without the converter as long as the d2v project loader is registered. No full no muss. Same thing with AviUtil project files and TMPGenc project files in AviUtil....

Install TMPGenc, VFAPI tools, DVD2AVI ( make sure vfapi registration is sucessful by checking environment options for the project loader ). Load the .mpg in dvd2avi and save as project. This d2v file should be able to be opened under TMPGenc.

  6. Now I am confused:

-TMPGenc does not have an D2v AFPI plug-in available.

    - I tried the VAFPIConvert tool but it can only open .tpr projects. not D2V.

    - There's no option to register VFAPI in DVD2AVI. There's a menu item under help that says "VFAPI Plug-in" but nothing happens when I click it ( my DVD2AVI is 1.76)

    Ok under..

    TMPGenc/options/environment settings/VFAPI plug-in

Is there a DVD2AVI project reader?

If there is not you still do not have VFAPI installed correctly. If it is then TMPGenc should be able to open d2v projects.

yes you are right .. method i mentioned (which works of course) is most compatable and as well i had/have problems across network between machines for opening d2v files directly in tmpgenc (i have often 2 or 3 frame servers going) .. so hence the convertor .. also i send dvd2avi files through v-dub to eyone fusion (1080p files as source) and the convertor works better for me ..
but you are right - normally you just do it the way you say ..

i never tried to open tmpgenc files in anything else myself ...

dont know why he cant open d2v files with the convert tool .. no problems ever here .

  9. 1- I figured out the D2V problem. It turns out my first DVD2AVI download was incomplete and didn't come with the vfp file. Problem solved.

2- I still have my original 2 problems trying to make an SVCD:
a: whenever I make an SVCD MPEG2, I can't open it in Windows media player. I get an 80040200 error from Media player, which usually means either Video compression is not installed (which it is) or incompatible stream..

b: I first tried using DVDx to make the MPEG2 for the SVCD, but always end up with choppy sound. I couldn't figure that one out. That's why I'm trying TMPGenc now. Hope it eventually works.

    Thanks
