  1. I'm using ASFRecorder to download a webcast interview. I clicked the preview button and i heard sound but no video. I opened mplayer2 and watched the video, it downloaded some audio and video codecs and played the video. I start watching and the video is upside down, horizontally and vertically. 50% is the actual size (320x240). 100% is really 200% the size. 200% is 400%(bigger than my TV). What's wrong how can i uninstall these f**ked up codecs?

  2. Well, the only way I know of uninstalling a codec (for those that don't come with an unregister batch file, which is most unfortunately) is by knowing or figuring out the filename of the codec installed, then removing it from the Windows\system32 directory, which is where necessary codec files are kept.

OR, (I know this works in Windows XP, not sure with other versions, but worth a try) an easier way to view the codecs installed with an option to remove them is to go into the control panel, go to the "sounds and audio devices menu," and click on the "Hardware" tab. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu that comes up and you should see a "Video Codecs" entry. Highlight this entry and then click on "Properties." Now, on the menu that pops up, click on the "Properties" tab and here it will list the codecs, with a remove button below. This is by far the easiest and safest way to get rid of extra or unwanted codecs, but it is not fool-proof, so be careful.

And in your case, you may be introuble because, as you know, Microsoft assumes you are an idiot who won't know what you're looking at, and therefore doesn't tell you WHICH codec is being installed, it just installs it. This is the biggest reason why I don't use WMP. Unless you know which codec was installed, you are going to have to delete all of them you don't recognize. Sorry

    Hope this helps,

    Prospero
