Ok, so if you`ve read my post further down about Tmpgenc & interlaced mpeg 2 you will know the subject of which encoder is best has been battered to death & i didn`t really get any conclusion to my problem,
From an interlaced DV source to Mpeg 2 DVD, after much testing i found that Tmpgenc gives a much sharper better quality image than anything else but i`ve had to stick to using Ulead because of fast movement problems i get in Tmpgenc.
I looked closely at a certain shot where i pan up to a window then quickly pan away from it. In Tmpgenc, as i pan away the window distorts & seems to momentarily split into 2 or 3 smeared bands of colour. You have to be quick to see it but as you know after hours of watching the same clip, you then notice problems throughout your movie, even when others dont !!. I`ve tried altering the field orders, bitrates, motion search etc, but nothing seems to cure it.

I like Tmpgenc & seems the vast majority of you think it`s definately the best so i would like to use it for encoding my home videos but am reluctantly sticking to Ulead Movie factory for "Less sharp but smoother videos".
Lets not get into a debate about which encoder is better, just any sugestions please as to how i can Get better results out of Tmpgenc ?
Source - Pal DV fom JVC dvl 157 cam
